Tuscarora Summit. Tuscarora Mountain was not only the first major Appalachian ridge encountered by westbound motorists on the Lincoln Highway, it also contained one of the longest and steepest grades. Beginning in the 1920s, this was a profitable location for at least three ridge-top one stops providing gas, food, and lodging. All three structures still exist. Just east of the summit is the Tuscarora Inn, now a private residence. At the ridge crest is the Tuscarora Summit Inn, now a bar, but once famous as Doc Seylar’s. The now idle structure just west of the summit once provided gas and food to passing motorists as Eagles Eyrie and the Shamrock Inn.
