Art Center Giorgio De Chirico

Giorgio de Chirico was born in Volos on July 10, 1888 his parents were Italian, his father worked as an engineer and supervised the construction of the Thessalian railway network.   The environment of Volos and Greek culture, in which he grew de Chirico, was a source of inspiration for him. In an autobiographical text, he described his childhood with reference to ancient Greek mythology and especially the myth of Argonauts starting in Volos, writing: ".. I spent the first years of my life in the land of Classicism, i played on the shore who saw the Argo to start its journey at the foot of the mountain which witnessed the birth of Achilles with quick feet and wise admonition of his teacher, the Heiron Centaur. " The city of Volos honored the great surrealist artist giving the name to the art center
