分险要，处于隘口之上，为古时福州北面的重要门户。山寨建于明代，明嘉靖年间，

戚继光曾率兵破寨，消灭了盘踞寨中的倭寇。抗日战争期间，爱国将士曾在此抗击侵

犯福州的日军。1949年8月16日，中国人民解放军经此寨解放福州。目前降虎寨的寨墙

遗址犹存，前后两寨门仍屹立降虎岭，特别是面向连江的前寨门气势雄伟，古朴壮观

。
