Greetings Berend.

These rapids have now been eliminated by the Three Gorges Dam project, and the riverside village has gone under the lake. However the bold dip of the tilted geology will always remain.

I was fulfilling a dream as we cruised upstream towards Chongqing, passing through the Three Gorges immediately after the damming of the river at Yichang by the Gezhouba (Dam) and before the Three Gorges Project was commenced. This was in August 1983 and we were travelling against the tail end of a flood so our progress was relatively slow, so allowing for plenty of photography and much learning.

I was leading a professional delegation to China, and was therefore very privileged - to say the least!

It is great to be able to share a little of my experience of China with you, Jeff. I am very pleased that you like this image.
