The open-air museum in Gutach at the Black Forest highway are Black Forest farmhouses of the 16th to 18 Century with adjoining buildings such as storage, backup and burn little house, and sawmill Hausmahlmühle shown. In the houses there are black smoke kitchens, furnished farmhouse rooms and bedrooms with painted furniture, decorative clocks and stoves, as well as the impressive roof trusses of large farms, which were used for storing hay.
Visitors get a fascinating glimpse into peasant life and living in rural culture and technology of the Black Forest. There are daily changing variety of traditional crafts demonstrated. Also, museum tours or guided tours are offered on specific topics, eg The mill management.
