The railway "station" being a siding at Orawia

Another historic photo (thanks Google for allowing these on Panoramio!) showing the railway station at Orawia after the tracks were lifted at the end of the plant's productive life but before the main building was demolished.

I am advised that most of the production equipment and machinery at Orawia, which was all relatively new by cement plant standards - just 8 years of use- was salvaged and re-located to the Golden Bay Cement Co works at Waitomo, and the building which was steel framed and which would have had significant scrap steel value, was re-located to Westport.
