Charles City Court House, Charles City County, VA. (circa 1757, New Front)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Ah, the insanity of it all..... Ok you are looking at what once was the back of the old Charles City Courthouse, but has now become the front of the old Charles City Courthouse. The original front which is seen in the next photo has been enclosed with brick and windows to add two small rooms to the courthouse. Now before you begin to hiss and boo the good people of Charles City County, it must be noted that the interior of this old courthouse is considered the most preserved and intact of the old Virginia Courthouses of this type. FYI, the old front arcade was bricked over soon after the civil war, so no one is alive to accept the blame for horrendous remodeling of the exterior of the building.
