Thank you for your interest, both Janne and Sneemann :) This island really is a kind of miracle, having 10 km long beaches with the high dunes like shown here. The island Ärjä propably used to be a delta area of an ancient river, which was carrying the melting water from the glaciers of the previous Ice-Age.

Ei ihme, jos paikka muistuttaa Sotkamon Hiukkaa; se ja Ärjän saari kuuluvat samaan hiekkavyöhykkeeseen, joka alkaa idässä jossain Vienan Karjalassa ja jatkuu Sotkamon ja Oulujärven kautta Rokualle Vaalassa. Kyseessä kait jokin jääkauden loppupuolen vanha jäänreuna, joka sitten kasannut hiekkaa ihan kunolla pitkin tätä vyöhykettä..
