Era pomeriggio e passeggiando piacevolmente avevamo raggiunto da piazza Taksim il Ponte Galata sul Corno d’Oro. Sul ponte abbiamo assistito, incuriositi, alla tradizionale pesca sul Corno d’Oro. In pratica centinaia di pescatori, disposti uno accanto all’altro, erano intenti a pescare un piccolo pesce azzurro. La pesca era propizia ed i contenitori del pesce pescato erano in buona parte pieni. Superato il ponte, ci siamo subito trovati immersi nella folla vociante e festosa di Eminönü, con le sue calorose tradizioni. Su tre grandi barconi, addobbati in maniera alquanto vistosa, arrostivano centinaia di sgombri con i quali preparavano il Balik Ekmek (panino con il pesce), con abbondante insalata verde e cipolla, conditi con limone. L’odore invitante del pesce arrostito ci ha convinto a provare: era molto buono. Nella piazza antistante le offerte di cibo di strada erano le più svariate, dalle pannocchie di mais, agli strani sottaceti, alle pastelle fritte insaporite con sciroppo di miele, c’era solo l’imbarazzo della scelta …


It was afternoon and we had reached leisurely walk from Taksim Square the Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn. On deck we watched, intrigued, the traditional fishing on the Golden Horn. In practice, hundreds of fishermen, arranged side by side, were busy fishing in a small bluefish. The fishing was propitious and the containers of fish caught were mostly full. After the bridge, we immediately immersed in the festive crowd of Eminonu, with its warm tradition. On three large barges, decorated in a rather showy, roasted hundreds of mackerel with which they prepared the Ekmek Balik (fish sandwich), with plenty of lettuce and onions, seasoned with lemon. The inviting smell of broiled fish, convinced us to try: it was very good. In the square the offers of street food were the most diverse, from corn cobs, the strange pickles, batter fried flavored with honey syrup, there was only spoiled for choice …
