Open year round, Mingus Park in Coos Bay, Oregon is a large, lovely and beautifully planted area to walk, enjoy the laughter of children, feed the ducks and geese, meet with friends and neighbors. Several cultural/musical events are scheduled throughout the summer months for the enjoyment of all.
...A paved walking path skirts a large man-made pond with three water fountains, floating plants and a miniature island, with several benches upon which to rest, enjoy the views, contemplate the great and small gifts of life. There is a playground for children and several open and covered picnic areas with tables.
...Choshi Gardens, named for Coos Bay’s sister city in Japan, is a charming and restful Japanese garden with small man-made waterfalls and stream, the Pond of Illusion with the Snow Lantern, wooden boardwalks, the picturesque red arched Morning Song Bridge, beautifully manicured trees, flowering plants, shrubs, and other foliage.
...Natural trails in the north of the park include a walk through a large stand of second growth trees and a Frisbee/disk golf course. A skateboard park is located in the southeast portion, as well as a softball field in the east.

Thanks, Erik - I enjoyed roaming around before the band concert. There was a lovely dogwood in bloom near the Snow Lantern. Looking forward to seeing the marimba band at Shore Acres this weekend. Happy thoughts (O:
