This must be an old fire house.
I think you are right. It's located in the center of town and that high archway is another plus factor. I will relable my picture title. Thank you.
This picture is an old bank building and not a fire house. There have been four banks in town. The present one in operation, the one that is in the picture, another one up the street one half block that is now the Manlius Historical Society building and an older one that was on N. Main St. but has been torn down. After this bank on N. Main closed my parents rented it right after they were married. No running water or sewer. The vault was their closet. The bank in the picture housed the old telephone switchboard on the upper floor before dial telephones.
Thank you, rmovingon, for giving us an insight of the history of this fine, red brick building.
It’s nice to hear that it is being utilized once again.
This may have been a bank at one time. But I still believe the construction was for a fire house. Otherwise why the bay door? I see many old fire houses that get used for all manor of other uses.
