My father Arthur Beazley Jr. owned this store. It was officially listed as Arcadia Service but it was better known locally as "Old Beazley's store".
My grandparents acquired the building around 1932.In 1951 the house I live in was built and they moved here and closed off the second floor. It was only used for storage after that.
The bottom floor was a general store.A true representation of the old time "Mom and Pop/country store". A good portion of the items he sold were bought from Food Lion on special and he sold them for regular price.
One of the most commonly heard things about the store was that it had the coldest beer in the area. There was always a small rush of people around quitting time lol. Another notable part of the store was that it was the only place around that you could open a line of credit. All the records were kept in a wood covered, handwritten log book(That's right,no computers in this store lol).
My father died in November of 2003.The store sat unused other than storage for some of my stuff for a few years. The store was just recently auctioned off in August 2010.The new owner is in the process of renovating/restoring the building with the intentions of putting some sort of small business there.
