Hello Krisztina - I am a hummingbird afficionado and spend countless hours trying to photograph the tiny birds in my back yard . The sight and sound of the hummingbird soothes the soul - even better if you can get a picture !

Howdy Derek and Kenfowkes - gotta wonder what transpires from here !

Took the images in my own backyard cause that's where the beer cooler was !

Hello Krisztina - entered this image and others similar to it in 3 photo contests - won 3 times - not because I am a great photographer , but because people love hummingbirds !!!

kenfowkes on January 5, 2013

Well, likely both I think. I get a lot of hummingbirds in my backyard, and one thing I notice is they do not stay still for long. I suspect that getting a shot like this requires persistence and talent, and then some good luck too. Is that a cestrum?

Good catch and shot, my like

Thank you kindly Xeon !

The flowers are " Ipomopsis Rubra " ( Standing Cypress ) kenfowkes - a Zone 3 bi-annual flower that hummingbirds like - our hummingbirds migrate thru in the fall ( they nest and spend the summer in the mountain meadows where wildflowers are abundant ) ! Al Servo focus mode , extreme telephoto , full sun on the flower with the sun at your back are key ingredients for hummingbird photography .

Hey Waldo, CONGRATS!!!!! So great to see your name and photo on the contest winners page! Excellent shot. Now just don't go holding your breath for any prize to actually be sent to you. That's all a sham. I got an honorable mention last year, and in spite of them asking for an address a few times, there's been NADA.

Hello Bits-n-Pieces - good to hear from you ! Does this mean that I will never receive my major award ?
