I think I was there in October 1993, Ainars! It's a long story, but my guide took me to that Metro stop, and we walked to a business that would make arrangements to transport my aunt to Helsinki for surgery on the hip she had broken during our first night in Russia. (I, of course, accompanied her to Finland.)
We had arrived immediately after the end of the uprising in which the Moscow "White House" was burned. The morning we came to this place, there were some little boys in the park, hunting shells left from the uprising.
I was in a daze when the interpreter brought me here, so I had no idea where I was. This looks right, however, both in your photo and on the map. I, too, may have taken a picture of the sculpture, so perhaps someday I confirm that this is the place.
Thanks for posting this! Marilyn
Hi, Marilyn, I find for You interesting photo!
Very interesting, Ainars! That was happening while we were on our way to Moscow. I saw it from a bus two nights later. Thanks for the link.
Thank You for Your story connected to this area! I double checked photo pointer acurracy and believe, I allowed no failures.
Monument is located in middle of round square and same time in front of entry to Metro/subway station "ulitsa 1905 goda" (year 1905 str.).
Behind me is long park square "Presnya" with Lenin monument at the other end of square.
I can't recall much details about this square since 1986 or earlier visits because then I was very young and I was not very interested in political figures and monuments, rather I look around for nearest icecream booths or chat with my classmates. :D
Uprising of White house we all seen only on TV.
