This Slide Show contains photos from my trip on the various glaciers and peaks near Eldorado Peak in the North Cascades. The trip was in July 2012. I hope you enjoy it.
At this point it was late in the day; I dropped all of the nonessentials to make the summit of Austera. All of my bivy gear, food and water are over 2 miles away near Eldorado peak on the right skyline, and the sun was getting low fast.
The higher point of this summit is to the north and requires either a lot of snow in early season, or steady nerves on a chimney with a left side of nice solid rock, and a right side with untrustworthy rock.
The traverse to the summit had lots of rock that seemed solid but was not firmly attached. A few descent slings were left to rappel in the chimney. I did not dally on this summit at this late hour.
The views at this location were the best I found all day.
Too white knuckle for me, but thanks for letting me tag along through your photos and comments. Wonderful photo. Greg.
