Pebbles on the Beach @ Saltwick Bay, Yorkshire.

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

This popular cove at Saltwick Bay makes a perfect early morning destination for shooting seascapes. As you can see, the beach is deserted.

My biggest problem was keeping my mischievous dog out of the scene.

High atop the cliffs behind my viewpoint is a holiday resort and caravan park.

The beach is accessed via a steep footpath and steps hewn out of the cliff face, the climb back to the top is energy sapping!

This photo is the result of 16 separate raw images stitched in PS3 and enhanced in Lightroom3. HDR IS NOT APPLIED.

If you have the time, enlarge the image to fill your screen, the detail is very fine, even down to each grain of sand!

As for seascapes, this is one of my best shots!

This is really also my cup of tea! The best time to be on the beach is the early morning or about 30 minutes before the sun is going to sleep. This one is breathtaking, and if you dont mind, a wallpaper on my computer!

Greetings, Ed

I'm most grateful for your generous appraisal Ed....tAs you remarked, this special light is so sweet and workable..the best time for me also.

~Bassam~~~~~There are many coves similar to this in the near vicinity and there is nothing like the spread of early morning light to cast its golden glow on the beach...Thanks for the feedback and L Bassam :)

NoleDjole~~~~I appreciate your visit, and compliment!

What a beautiful picture, Jim!

Well worth the 16 shots. :-)

This goes directly to my favourite folder, and I miss a couple of more stars to put on it.

Very nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers and greetings from Norway,

PerO the Viking~~~~A warm welcome PerO :) and thank you so much for your generous appraisal..The YSL means a lot to me!

I had a lot of fun taking this sequence of shots..Even getting my gear onto the beach was quite an adventure. The early morning light was disappointing at first but as the sun climbed above the horizon, the glorious light just burst out into this deep golden glow, lighting up the pebbles and rocks along the beach. The night air was so warm, filling my lungs with the refreshing sea breeze as I set getting the tripod erected and my camera settings adjusted to the variable light conditions. One of my best photo shoots so far!

Don Z~~~I greet you warmly Don and thank you kindly for your visit and encouraging remarks!

Best wishes to you both!

Wow Jim - a lot of work certainly went into this and how its paid off !!

Perfect in every regard. The natural cliff framing, spectacularly dramatic sky - wonderful colours and a lovely array of 'pebbles' :)

The only thing missing from the scene is a mischievous dog ;)

Straight into favourites without a moments hesitation - love it

Best wishes Dean

trikermike on July 30, 2012

Magnificent on my 32" screen, but when zoomed in to full size I spent all afternoon counting the sand grains - much more enjoyable than the Olympics!

Great to see you about Jim, I have sent you PM and e.mail to inform you of something, keep yer back to the wid lad!

♥♥ Mike

Goodness me guys! I'm delighted by the reception that this photo has received so far

♰Linrich♰~~~~I'm chuffed that you enjoyed this one Richard and honoured by your kind appraisal..the YSL accolade means a great deal to me!

Sunriser ®~~~Your kind review is much appreciated!

Geezer Vz~~~~~I empathise with your views on HDR Guy. Whilst I do not rule out the use of it for the odd photo, it will never feature to any great degree in my gallery. However, the process is quite good fun in practice but often the end result is too far removed from reality..but hey, what's wrong with a little fantasy :)

Ghiocela~~~~~My coastline is very beautiful Simona and I consider myself fortunate, if not a little privileged to live so close to the sea and sand. However, this location is not quite as deserted as it may appear. Only a few hundred metres on the cliff top is this rather ugly holiday camp Fortunately, the holiday makers were all asleep when I arrived on their beach..As always my friend, it is such a pleasure to receive your visit and thoughtful comments and I am humbled by your generous appraisal..The YSL means so much.

cjlin~~~~The doggy is very mischievous Cjiln :) On more than one occasion, she ran through my tripod with a large stick in her mouth almost tipping the camera over..However she made me laugh when I threw the stick into the freezing cold sea only to watch her swim well out into the water to retrieve her prize and delivered it at my feet to be thrown into the sea once again..This went on until the sun was too far above the horizon :)

GasGas~~~Greetings Lex :) I feel pretty certain that you have already captured images equally as good, if not better than the one illustrated here. Your comment is very much appreciated ;)

Dean Matthews~~~~From one who constantly strives and succeeds to produce exceptional photos I take that as a huge compliment Dean, many many thanks! As for the missing dog..maybe next time hey!

trikermike~~~~Of all my pals, counting the grains of sand was the least I could expect from one whose critique is of the highest esteem..Please let me know when you reach a figure..I am sure some one has already calculated the exact number..No prizes for the winner I'm afraid! I checked my PM in box Mike but it has not yet arrived. I've left you a PM..Please let me know if you receive it..There may still be a problem with my computer set-up since I was invaded/infected by hosts, trojans, worms, trolls and god knows what else last week!

~Marlene~~~~A big, warm Yorkshire welcome Marlene :) It's such a pleasure to receive your meaningful comment and generous review..all very much appreciated...

_ To you all, I express my profound thanks for your precious comments and friendly visits_

Kind regards!
