Sumpters Store Harbour Street - top floor roof detail

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

In this and most other buildings in the heritage precinct at Harbour Street, the roof trusses are worth a look at!

For a start in every case, the bottom stringer or tie beam is one piece of wood. Without measuring, going off the land plans only, this tie is 18 metres long.

The whole structure is bolted and the queen posts are attached to the tie beam by U straps which have been pulled up tight before drilling and bolting with these feathers and wedges. They have been painted and it's hard to tell from ground level if they are steel or hardwood - I suspect they are steel. A nice construction detail.
