Yabba Falls: Owen Cascades and the Primeval Forest, Queensland, Australia

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The last section of Yabba Falls, is Owen Cascades.

Here, Yabba Creek descends from Bottom Pool to Corner Pool, passing through a rock fall on the way. On the southern side, there are two patch forests of virgin hoop pine (Araucaria cunninghamii). These towering trees normally are the emergent trees above the forest canopy, but here they are dense enough to form a closed canopy of their own.

At Owen Cascades, the undercutting has exposed the folding, and intrusions in the volcanic geology of the lower gorge. Major joints (or faults) have contributed to the rock fall through which the Yabba passes.
