This building is actually called the shot house. It was a Remmington Arms building that functioned during World War II. At that time this factory created tons of bullets and other ammunitions 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

This building was called the "Shot Tower". You can see it from St. Augustine's cemetary on Artic Street in the East Side of Bridgeport. It is 167 feet high. It was used during the Arsonal of Democracy to aid in making perfectly round bullets from 700 degree molten lead that sprayed out of these sifting machines. They pumped out alot of ammo at this factory.
They had a show on "Ghost Adventures":Remington Arms on traveland in November of 2009 where five parnormal experts and a paranormal Police Office from Bridgeport, locked themselves down in the "Shot Tower" overnight and walked all the way up to the observation deck and took pics of paranormal activity and used a microphone to pick up eerie sounds.
Anyway...."The Shot Tower" sits like an albatross rotting away since it would cost the city far too much money to remove it or renovate it. There is alot of lead and asbestos in that building. Not too far from the shot tower is The Remington Plant on Barnum Avenue and Helen Street. Also, what was once General Electric on Boston Avenue was also contacted to Remington Arms on Barnum Avenue by underground tunnels and a yellow railcar ran from one side of the plant to the other to bring gunpowder and other items to the factories. The factory on Boston Avenue was made in 1915-1916. GE leased it from Remington-UMC in 1920 for 7 millions dollars. GE bought it by 1922, during peacetime.

Hope this was of some help to you all. I am a local historian.

Wow, what an interesting history. I had never heard about the tunnels and railcar. I too am a local history buff and collect antique postcards on Bridgeport.
