Cape Leeuwin water wheel 1895

Built in 1895 to supply water to the builders of the Lighthouse and later to the lighthouse keepers cottages. Limestone was taken from nearby Quarry Bay while the waterwheel provided water to mix the mortar. The water to the wheel was supplied from a natural spring but over the years the water table has dropped and today the water wheel is supplied by water powered by electricity to keep the timbers wet and prevent the timbers from drying out and cracking. The wheel is now covered in calcified lime
