photos which were made by my daughter Sofia on travel on Ukraine - the homeland of my parents to the city of Berdichev
The Berdichevsky klyashtor (monastery fortress) of an award of Barefooted Carmelites in 1627 was based by the voivode and the general head of the Kiev edge Janusz Tishkevich in a vow for release from the Tatar captivity. Under a klyashtor and in a basis of a monastic economy Tishkevich transferred in 1630 the Berdichevsky lock manor with several next villages.
In 1634 Carmelites put an underground Mariinsky church, constructed trading crypts, shops and other economic buildings, extended fortress walls. Construction lasted eight years. Solemn opening of a monastery and consecration of the bottom church took place on July 22 1642г. On this celebration the founder brought sacrificial gift for a new church - Blessed Virgin Mary's long since known for Tishkevichiv in a family for the good fortune the icon.
After death of the last Carmelite - father Terezy Boleslav Shtobrin - the communistic power of Russia took away a monastery in state ownership. In the top church the museum, and in bottom - an atheistic cinema was created. In 1941г., directly ahead of German invasion to the Soviet Union, in a monastery there was a fire. Most likely, in its flame the wonder-working icon was lost.
It is said that the French writer Honoré de Balzac here got married
