Another building that you'd like to fix up and open up, Ainars? It must have been quite glorious! Marilyn

I wonder why they abandoned it this way.

Sad to know, than noone is really interested to invest (so far!) and save this unique neo- gothics pearl in Baltics! Available web sources said, this castle design is really interesting and in total we can count only three sites around in whole Europe with castles like this - Kittendorf in Germany and Bedlewo in Poland

Bad times began in 1905 when manor was burned off. Afterwards was partly restored / repaired and used as living house, but abandoned again in 1960-ties and now approaching darkest period since built. :(

Ainars, I would like to note this really is not a castle, but just a local landlord's mansion. I've been there yesterday, and in in NOT fully abandoned. Few people still live there, in the right "wing" (to the right from the main entrance, over the corner there's a little door). So, I've talked to mansion's inhabitants and found out there was a local store on the 2nd floor inside, letters "veikals" still remain, but it was closed 2 yrs ago. Locals said there were no repairs for 40 or 50 yrs, the roof's remaints are leaking and the walls are breaking. We rally should include "lauku muižas" into our historic heritage list, not only the old riga with it's casinos and sluts, but the objects that cotain true value are in derelict condition. sadly...

Thanks for long and informative comment about this castle! Before I have no ideas than peoples is living in manor. From available info I expected than house is totally abandoned and slowly breaking since 40-50 years.

I agree with You than rather spend money for space projects like new National bookstorage house "Gaismas pils" library, better we decide spend in smaller portions for numbers of old manor houses, parks and churches around whole country to increase National and local hystorical values. With best regards, Ainars

p.s. I will remove abandoned tag frm this.
