"Morning has broken"

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

This is the revered Saxon church of Saint Mary on the east cliff at Whitby. The XII century structure pre-dates the adjacent ruined Abbey by at least one hundred years. As a parish church, it plays an important roll as an integral part of the local community. The church is bathed in local lore and legend and has close links to the townsfolk as well as the landed gentry of days gone by! It is slowly slipping towards the ever restless sea but every effort will be made and no expense will be spared to secure the future of this precious structure..no matter what happens! The bell tower houses a full peal of eight bells and a very enthusiastic team of amateur bell ringers! These bells chime out their changes every Thursday evening and most Sunday mornings! The town is filled with the glorious sound of those chiming bells as the ringers are put through their paces! It is the dream of local lasses to be married in this church and little wonder..There is no other like it!
