Sanli Urfa is where St. Abraham was born and there are traces of many saints that appear in the Old Testament.
Abraham is the ancestor of Israelis. And his son, Ismail, is the ancestor of Islamic people and is regarded as a respected figure. It is also the shrine of Islam, Christianit, and Judaism, so pilgrims never stop visiting it.
Especially, for this Balikli(Ayn-i Zeliha) pond, there are two legends that have been transmitted.
One is that King Nimrud of Assyria accumulated firewood and set fire to it to burn Abraham opposing shamanism at the stake, but the fire was turned into water and the firewood was changed into fish.
And another one is that it was the place where Nimrud’s daughter, princess Zeliha, who believed in Abraham threw her body watching the scene that Abraham was burnt at the stake.
