Dear Chris, I had to make the map much smaller to find out where you were. I have seen some reports of this region and of Mongolia. Sure you've had a lot of great experiences! My dreams since my childhood, actually since I was able to read... :)
Great photo! I can imagine this wood has been transported in the river.
Thank you so much for your many comments in my galleries!
Best wishes, May
Dear May, it was my pleasure to pay your galleries a visit and enjoy a bit of your world. I have never been to Switzerland, or the British Isles though I would dearly love too...
This place is far from us both and it was my first visit to this region - not far from the birthplace of Genghis Khan. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes through Ulan Ude after Irkutsk and skirting the south shore of Baikal. Siberia is such a vast and varied place - a little hard to fathom...
This is the wood yard of a typical sawmill - we were scouting here for samples. I liked the pattern of the larch rounds stacked with the pine slabs. The trees are cut in the surrounding hills and brought by truck to the mill. I believe most of the lumber is for home construction - local use. There is no export market for it in this region - unlike Krasnoyarsk. They are strip mining coal for export to China though.
Fond regards, Chris
Thank you Chris for your friendlyness and for telling about this region. I have seen some documentary films of Irkutsk, the Baikal lake, the railway line, and many more of Siberia and Mongolia. I am fascinated. And I have done many journeys with Google Earth, visiting places virtually. ;))
Warm regards, May
Original! I liked
Thank you Səməd
