This is a shot at the Red Rock Canyon Conservancy, outside Las Vegas Nevada, a one-way 13 mile scenic drive, the color of the rock formation is due to the high iron oxide content.

Wow... a really stunning pic! The description is very interesting, but you missed to write that the "red" colour is also caused by the absence of remarkable rain events. Otherwise, if you were in a rainy country, for example, you'd see dark brown or black rocks, as many we have in the Alps.

True, Matteo , not much rain here, it is the "High Desert", no idea what it looks like in the rain. Do have some summer squals, floods, but haven't seen it yet.
