The Garibaldi, Great Yarmouth (Oct 1998)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

On a visit to Great Yarmouth in October of 1998 I went in search of the Garibaldi Pub. I had sat on the wall there a few times in the 1950's with Vimpto and Smith's Crisps.

Well, it then seemed to have been turned into a night club, and now in 2012 it has disappeared! Back around 1900 it was a 4 storey, men only hotel, catering for young men on holiday from London. These 'Garibaldi Lambs' were noted for their high spirits, and it is said that the hotel was known worldwide!

You are right Jethro

It was not like this in the late 50's. Did you read the comments under the picture?

What a place it must have been in 1900 with 4 storeys on top! Strange thing is that it catered for young men from London, obviously them from the North, and here in the dark satanic mills of the Black Country, could not afford a holiday!

All the best Peter
