D23 HMS Bristol is a type 82 destroyer, the only vessel of her class to be built for the Royal Navy. It was originally intended to be the first of a new class of destroyers to escort the CVA-01 aircraft carriers projected to come into service in the early 1970s, Bristol turned out to be a unique ship as the rest of the class were cancelled when the carriers fell victim to the 1966 Strategic Defence Review. Now where have we heard this story before! Anyway she sits on her berth in Portsmouth Harbour set against the evening skies. I was gutted as I actually wanted the sun setting but we didn't get on deck in time!
