Maverick's -- the famous surf spot -- is about a half mile beyond the rocks, in a seaward direction, naturally. These rocks actually shelter the tide pools at the base of Pillar Point, which is part of the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve. The tide pools are visible in the foreground. The constant churning of the wind and surf perfumes the air here with the scent of sea foam and the slippery green moss that coats the rocks.
