Thanks for that Pye - the workings of the selection people are mysterious to many, and not wholly consistent. In my experience the things that don't get in are pics with clearly recogniseable people (especially children),abstracts, pictures which are modified in unnatural ways (apart from the traditional ones like B&W and sepia toning)and pics where the landscape element drops below a threshold - where the picture is of something else and the surrounding landscape is incidental. Close-ups like this also fall foul of that. However, the application of the rules isn't consistent - which is why I not only have INEXPLICABLY NOT SELECTED, but also INEXPLICABLY SELECTED tabs ;D

This one didn't get accepted, I can only assume it's because they thought it was a close up. It's not really, it is a kite that is the size of a passenger van that I was a good 30 feet from. I was bummed because I really like the picture and was hoping it would get in.
