Whitefish Point Light (Monochrome), Whitefish Point, near Paradise, Michigan

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Thanks, Kevin Childress, for pushing me over the edge to try doing more monochrome.

One of the reasons I think this works OK is that it started as a decent color image. The sky is not as dark as I wished, but I ran into texture problems going darker. Other than that, I'm satisfied.

Nice in B&W.

The sky can be darkened by adding some shadow.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your comment, flyingdutchman. I worked with layers to try to darken the sky, and got more noise as a result, along with some posterization (my current camera doesn't do RAW, only JPG). I hadn't tried using the highlight/shadow controls, though. I doubt I'll go back and rework this image, but I will try to keep your advice in mind.
