Whitefish Point Light, Whitefish Point, near Paradise, Michigan

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The Whitefish Point Light on Lake Superior is a steel casement with a significant steel structure supporting it. It is made to withstand the winter storm gales of the big lake.

On the grounds is the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, home to the bell brought up from the wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. The Fitzgerald is the most famous wreck in the area, but there have been dozens of others. In all, more than 6,000 vessels have slipped beneath the waves of the five Great Lakes.
