They went through the same old rite:

Once every second year all Massai boys (aged 13 - 18 years) go through circumcision. Without anaesthetic. Screaming or weeping they have to avoid, put him and his family to shame.

After that they have to stay alone for 4 weeks, far away from their village and family. Coming back, their fathers will give them some head of cattle. Now they are marriageable.

...zu der Geschichte passt das etwas "unheimliche" Foto sehr gut! Hätt´ ich vor einer halben Stunde sehen müssen, als mein "Junior" furchtbar "gejammert" hat, weil er `ne Blase am Fuß hat! ;-D
