Mary Alice - No mystery at all but a storm drain at the foot of Adams Street that carries a creek eastward under the railroad embankment. The tunnel continues about 2 blocks, emptying on the far side of Forsythe Street near the old fire house. As a boy, I lived a short block west of the tunnel at Adams and Chestnut Sts. Neighborhood boys, equipted with candles and "supplies" from the local army surplus store would regularly explore the tunnel and on down the creek to the Occmulgee River. Parts of I-75 at I-16 now cover our tracks.

How very amusing! We bring our dogs over to the dog park all the time, and I've always just been entranced with this cute little tunnel! I'm so glad to learn of it's history!

Thank you for that! :)

It sounds like you had a very fun and adventurous childhood!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Greetings from Yatesville,

Mary Alice
