Palisades of Quartzite

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

A fault of pink Quartzite comes to the surface around the I-90 SD/MN border and creates some considerable excitement on the prairies. This gorgeous spot has rock "flowerpots" reminiscent of China or Flowerpot Island on the Bruce Peninsula/Georgian Bay Ontario.

And it's become a mecca for prairie rock-climbers. There are several very excellent rock-climbing schools that hold classes here; and the instructors are as personable, friendly and down-to-earth as one could imagine.
