This rates as one of my favorite areas to hike in. Rather than hike up Lost Valley, my fellow hikers and I opted to take the junction to Big 5 Lakes. It is a "must do" if you enjoy prestine lakes and great fishing. There is a little known route on the west end of the Big 5 Lakes valley which the rangers call "Hands-and-Knees Pass". It is aptly named but quite do-able. It takes you over to Spring Lake.
