~ Wooden Church Of The Monastery Bârsana ~

Biserica este amplasata in partea estica a complexului monahal fiind destinata savarsirii cultului, ea este in acelasi timp centrul spiritual si compozitional al intregului ansamblu. Tinand seama de mai multe criterii specifice acestei manastiri, biserica a fost proiectata in urmatoarele dimensiuni: 22,57 metri lungime, 12,20 metri latime si 57 metri inaltime, numarandu-se printre cele mai inalte constructii de lemn din Europa. Constructia are doua nivele: demisol si parter. Demisolul reprezinta biserica primara, are o singura intrare si este luminat de douasprezece ferestre mici. Demisolul adaposteste paraclisul mare al manastirii. Altarul este separat printr-o catapeteasma construita din lemn sculptat cu ornate specifice artei maramuresene. Tavanul este sustinut de patru coloane de beton. Demisolul este construit din beton armat, cu pereti grosi si placati in exterior cu piatra de rau si este imbracat in haina picturala, realizata de pictorii Ioan si Mariana Botis, in tehnica fresca, in anul 1996. Biserica propriu - zisa se afla la parter, are un plan treflat, cu doua abside poligonale. Absidele laterale se formeaza din naos in apropierea iconostasului. Biserica concentreaza toate spatiile caracteristice unui lacas de cult ortodox: pridvor, pronaos (tinda), naos, altar. Pridvorul este construit din lemn de stejar sculptat cu ornamente specifice artei maramuresene. In pridvor, care este situat deasupra demisolului se ajunge pe doua scari laterale. Turnul este plasat deasupra pronaosului si este prevazut cu foisor si coif prelung. Acoperisul de sindrila de brad lucrata in stilul numit „coada de randunica” are streasina dubla si formeaza o adevarata dantelarie in lemn.Crucea de fier, avand inaltimea de sapte metri si greutatea de cinci sute de kilograme a fost ridicata pe biserica manastirii in ziua de joi, 10 august 1995.
