This is a king penguin. They go through a complete molt each year. The feathers wear out, and are replaced by new feathers. They stay out of the water for the entire time because the feathers aren't waterproof until the molt is finished. No water means no fish, so they fast for over a month until they're able to swim again.

May, it's a funny thought, for people to molt! To have to shed and regrow all our hair every year. Of course, faced with the more permanent option, I'm sure there are millions of bald men who would prefer molting. :)
