Hi Ainars being a country which was under Soviet Union Latvia has a great number of churches!More than Italy.Ciao Daniela

Yes, I am surprised too, because I never actually count churches near me before. Right now in this days, I made count in my collection and can say, I have uploaded for P-mio ~90 churches only from Latvia! I also made further estimate from available web adress sources than in this moment in Latvia are registered nearly 500 parish houses and congregations. Actual count of churches are little below congregations count because specially at country, Roman Catholics and Evangelics Lutherans often used same church buildings if one confession of those lost property during ussr period and not yet reneved.

If You followed my churches collection, there still is many sites where churches are under renovation process but some sites still are ruins or near to full dissapearing from culture sight.

Situation with religions and churches in ussr was quite complex and officially was not allowed nor accepted to go church, but most of families keept Bible words alive over generations and as soon was first breathes of freedom in Perestroika period, then actually church sites was first sites where to spread pure truth and ideas about history and how's there living behind that Iron curtain.
