Port Carling. St. James the Apostle Anglican, 1912 (Est. 1881)

St. James the Apostle, Anglican Church. Est. 1881, one of the three churches in this town.

Taking 10 years to complete, the building of this church was started in 1875. The first baptism was in 1881 with the first marriage in 1886. Because of its proximity to the summer resort, Stratton House, the noise would disrupt services. New church was opened in 1912 in current location. The original burned along with Stratton House.

Joyce Archdekin Payne wrote a booklet about this church. (1993 - 31 pages), so one day I will go to our library to educate my self.

Port Carling is located on Indian River, touching the shores of Silver Lake and Mirror Lake.
