Ad-Dayr, "The Monastery"

Deeply carved into a cliff face of the Jabal Ad-Dayr, the facade knows as "The Monastery" (85 BC - 110 AD) is one of the largest monument in Petra, measuring 47 m. wide by 51 m. high. It was built on the model of the Treasure but here the bas reliefs are replced by niches to house sculptures. It was probably used as a biclinium for the meetings of religious associations and many rituals may have been conducted here.
