I didn't realise Spis was Europe's largest castle. TR
I didn't realize it neither, but obviously castles in Central/Eastern Europe were build in a different way comparing to Western Europe. Moreover, most medeival castles in Slovakia are built on a hill, which poses a constrain as to size of a castle. The hill on which Spis is built is not that steep and is pretty flat, which allowed for a larger castle and court. You can find out more at Spis Castle official site www.spisskyhrad.com or on Wiki.
