Welt der Form by Thomas Emden-Weinert = SkulpTour Basel

Since mid-April 2005 the “Wiese” roundabout has a new, bright face: on 18 tubular supports a 2.40m high red ring of 20m in diameter hovering slightly tilted to 2.40m between highway bridges and roundabout. The ring shape enhances the function of the gyroscope, the red color is opposed to the gray monumentality of the bridges and the inclination offers from different directions surprising insights and views. The two young artists and architects Lucia Schnüriger and Harald König succeeded by a precise site-specific intervention to give a fresh identity for a unattractive place in Basel. The “Wiese” roundabout replaced by an urban upgrading and takes in the north of Basel functions as a gate.

Bit much building a flyover over this rather large ring ~ why didn't they just build a roundabout instead???
