The Greenland Ice Sheet exudes valley glaciers through gaps in the uplifted and sculpted peripheral mountain ranges. As the glaciers move into the sea, their bouyancy causes them to fracture in myriads of crevasses, until eventually they calve icebergs that capsize in the ocean. The ice shelf of frozen ocean is like a peripheral painted canvas that receives these fresh water icebergs.
