Beipu is a rural township in Hsinchu County in northern Taiwan and well known as a center of Hakka culture, especially for production of dried persimmon cake.
In Taiwan, there are five species of persimmons across island and Beipu plants a number of Diospyros Kaki Tumb (石柿) trees. This persimmon fruit tastes sweet, fibered; looks small and best for making dried persimmon cake. During the harvest season in autumn, the hill over the township is covered in reddish-orange color of the persimmon. Thanks for the advantage of the special geographic, the sunny but windy weather is crucial for the dried process and becomes the key driver of this special regional industry.
