Lean Too - Derelict Farm west of Jordan, MN - 1992

Through the 1980's, I'd taken an extended break from my passion of photography. Marriage, college and low income put a pretty good damper on such luxuries. Then in 1992, my divorce and a few rough relationships were behind me, a solid, stable employment was under my belt, and it was time for me to rekindle my passions.

I dug out my 1960's vintage equipment and early 1980's film and processing chemistry. I put up my B&W darkroom and started in, photographing the local Jordan / Shakopee area.

This series of shots looked good when I took and processed them in 1992, but when I brought the negatives back out in 2010 to digitize, all of the images had serious damage! I'm guessing that I processed these images with old chemistry and with insufficient washes and agitations that resulted in this wild, accelerated deterioration. Fortunately for me, most of these images were of ruins of derelict buildings and the like. Ironically, the resulting solarization effect and stains left me some compositions that I wouldn't have pursued myself, but I have now found somewhat enduring.

Thanks MinnJohn for the comments. It was actually your B&W, Shakopee Pegasus image that struck an emotional cord, which in turn brought up my memories of these archived images. In response, I spent a number of hours in Photoshop, preparing these digitized, silver-halide images for public sharing.
