重巡洋艦「愛宕」・駆逐艦「朝霧」戦没者之碑

軍艦「愛宕」は重巡洋艦で戦時中は第四艦隊の旗艦として活躍し、昭和１９年１０月２３日、比島パラワン島沖の海戦にて不運にも轟沈せり。乗組員１，１９７名のうち戦死者４８４名。その折り救援の駆逐艦「朝霜」が４９２名、同じく「岸波」が２２１名救助せり。

駆逐艦「朝霜」は昭和２０年４月７日、沖縄特攻部隊として出陣中、敵戦闘機三十余機と交戦、武運つたなく第２１駆逐司令・小滝久雄大佐、艦長・杉原与四郎中佐以下３２７名の将兵は九州南端沖に護國の鬼と化し、悲惨、艦とともに轟沈し全員戦死せり。

敵味方入り乱れての激戦の最中、沈没寸前に救助された乗組員の感激が「朝霜」の英霊に応えるが如く、「愛宕」戦没者の慰霊碑が建立された事は、戦後三十余年を迎え遅ればせながら両艦の偉勲を称えると共に、慰霊とご供養になることを信ずるものであります。

願わくば此の慰霊碑建立によって永久に平和を願い、戦争の悲劇を再び繰り返されないよう、楯となっていただき祖国日本をお守りくださるよう念願してやまない次第です。

Warship "Atago" plays an active part in 重巡洋艦 as a flagship of the fourth fleet in wartime, and, on October 23, 1944, is unlucky by the sea fight of the ratio Island Palawan island offing; instant sinking auction. I invite 30 rest of life after the war, and it praises the feat of both warships that the memorial service monument of the "Atago" war dead was erected as if emotion of the crew saved just before submergence affects the soul of "the morning frost" in the middle of a fierce battle with an ally and enemy being mixed and confused though a little too late and believes what is held a service for with a memorial service.

Preferably I pray for peace by this memorial service monument erection forever and cannot help desiring it so that it is not repeated tragedy of the war again I have it be it with a shield, and to look after mother country Japan.
