Rousseau's buggy birthday cake

Not selected for Google Earth or Google Maps [?]

Rousseau, just turning four, is fascinated by "bugs." His mother loves cake decorating. This amazing birthday cake is the result. Except for two purchased chocolate spiders (one shown in this photo), she made all the decorations - from chocolate!

Thanks to all of you for your very nice comments and your patience while I have been so quiet. I am about to send a book proposal to a publisher TODAY, and with that out of the way, I promise to resume activity on Panoramio. And - JB and others - I guarantee that I shall be taking lots of pictures between January 3 and 20th!

Best wishes for Christmas and a happy 2013!

JBTHEMILKER on December 21, 2012

I hope you have a good Christmas. I look forward to you coming back here with your pictures.

Daniela Brocca on December 21, 2012

I was coming here to leave a message asking if everything is well and I saw your comment, Marilyn.I'm happy for you that the work is finished and happy for us we will have you back. Why only untiln the 20th? Are you peparing for a journey? In the meantime my best wishes for Christmas and a great 2013!! Hugs to you and to Rousseau, Dany

Marilyn Whiteley on December 21, 2012

Thanks, JB and Dany. And Dany, I'll gladly pass on your hugs to Rousseau.

There's a professional meeting that I get to about every other year. When I learned that it was to be in New Orleans early this January, there was no question: we're going! (For many years I've wanted to visit New Orleans.) Then I checked the internet and discovered a Road Scholar event beginning a short time after the end of the meeting. (A number of our trips have been with Road Scholar: educational travel originally intended for seniors but now open to everyone.) It's three days in New Orleans and then a seven night cruise in the western Caribbean. There will be four day trips during the cruise: two in Mexico, one in Belize City, and one on Roatan Island, Honduras. My husband, my camera, and I should have a fine time!

JBTHEMILKER on December 21, 2012

Oh Boy! I am looking forward to that.

Daniela Brocca on December 21, 2012

Wow, that's great, Marilyn. Hope that New Orleans is back to the old time and that your knee is well. How I would wish to come with you, to the cruise too. Dany

Amelia Royan on December 22, 2012

Have a lovely Christmas too.

Warm wishes, Amelia

Hello Marilyn..such a cute birthday cake. Bugs and all! :)) If youve seen anything much of my gallery, you may know I do and have done cakes for many years, for family and for the public, tho I am trying to step back quite a bit, have done it so long, Iam tiring of it slightly. Tho all my grandchildren still get my cakes:)) tomorrow( Saturday) a nephew of mine gets a wedding cake:)) I love it, I would be honored if you and Rousseau's mom might take a look at some of my work. It has truly been so rewarding for me. Had to come and tell you I found this cake, and she did an excellent job with this 4th Birthday cake...My youngest grandchild is 7, oldest one 14...Hope Rousseau's birthday was just as he wishes. Hope the trip you spoke of up above was fantastic and you, hubby, and that camera had a glorious time:)) Ive sailed down into the Caribbean with my husband, two brothers & wives..Wonderful!! Have a great week end Marilyn, from Georgia, ~~Sarah~~

Thanks so much for writing, Sarah! Of course I remember your cakes, and I'm glad to have your update. I'll certainly sent Rose (Rousseau's mom) to look at them.

And you can look at some of hers if you google

sweet making mama

It's a Facebook page, set up for her home-based business. If you're not on Facebook (as I'm not), I guess you can't get beyond the first page, but you'll find some of her work there, as well as descriptions and comments. (I'd rather not post the link, to keep it from being harvested.)

I hope you're having a great weekend in Georgia. We got a foot of snow yesterday, but the sun was out today, and the world is beautiful. All the best, Marilyn

Sarah O on February 10, 2013

Hi Marilyn...thanks for the above coment. so good to hear from you. I tried on Google to bring up "sweet making mama"....some things popped up however, but not your daughter. I too am not on Facebook, nor do I wish to be!! Oh I wish I had a link to see her work, that would be so much fun.... Yes we are having a great weekend in Geoergia:) we;re back from that wedding of my nephew, where my cake went over really well:)) I was so proud of it, such nice folks coming up and asking "did I make the cake", and saying such nice things about how it looked and tasted. Makes a cake designer/decorator proud dto hear those words, Marilyn:)) gotta go, rather weary from a long busy day. Happy Sunday to you! Sarah

Marilyn Whiteley on February 10, 2013

Hi again, Sarah. I trust that by now you've received my e-mail with the web address. Sorry about my mistake: "making" instead of "makin." I'm not surprised that your cake went over so well, and I'm sure that's very satisfying. Good work! Marilyn
