Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The pond of Molentargius, one of the most important Mediterranean oasis, is located between the city of Cagliari, to St. Helens and the waterfront Poetto. Its name comes from the Sardinian word "su Molenti" or the donkey, animal used in the past to transport salt. Salt extraction within the pond has always been an activity done and an important resource, the time of the Phoenicians until a few years ago. The uniqueness of this area is the presence of reservoirs of both freshwater and saltwater, In this important nature reserve home to numerous species of birds, including the famous pink flamingo, the protagonist of the pond and symbol of the city. The moorhen, the marsh harrier, the cormorant and the knight of Italy are just some of the species that live in the pond Molentargius.
