No, no, Nick, that wasn't luck, but my decision :) - It's a bit complicated to get there, because you have to go to the Northern airport, or to go with the ferry in Tenerife and to stay one night there. The advantage, there are only few tourists.
No not luck in that sense May but lucky to have been there to the whistling island ~ I agree that it was your good planning :) The few tourist bit is right up my street ~ even though I'm one of em myself of course! In the alps out of snow season in Spring and late Autumn I find many peaceful places
:) So sorry, to contradict you again, Nick! La Gomera is the whistling island, not El Hierro. El Hierro is the most southernly and westernly island of the Islas Canarias. I am aware that I am one of 'those tourists' as well. smile, but I try not to look like one. I usually travel on my own and I don't carry the Swiss flag with me. Yes, Spring and autumn is fine for travelling in the mountains. Best for UK and Ireland is May and June, when the days are long and the British, German and Swiss tourists aren't on holidays yet. Their holidays are usually in July and August. ;))
